Hiking Bear Tooth - by Eric Chan
As you explore and experience nature in Montana’s 25 million acres of national forest and public lands, there are some ways to make your adventures (and of those who come after you) even more delightful.
When one thinks of Montana Tourism a myriad of locations and activities come to mind. Whether it’s watching bighorn sheep, bald eagles or wild horses at Wild Horse Island, fishing or rafting on the Madison River, enjoying dinner and a train ride at Charlie Russell Chew-Choo, or gazing in awe at Old Faithfull, you will find numerous natural wonders to enjoy.
Trip Tips
1. Be careful camping when using matches, cook stoves, and other flame sources. Be sure campfires are extinguished properly to prevent risk of forest fire.
2. Preserve the past. When visiting mining camps, ghost towns and other locations be sure to leave things intact. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
3. Enjoy wildlife watching from a distance; it’s safer for you both.
4. When camping or picnicking, be sure to dispose of trash properly. Leave a site cleaner than you found it.
5. Pay attention to any cautions or warnings concerning meadows, lakes, wetlands and streams. The animals which live there ‘need their space’ to survive.
6. Respect others property. Don’t set up camp somewhere without being sure you are allowed not everyone in Montana has opened up their personal property to campers!
7. Travel responsibly on trails, back country road ways and other areas. Follow any posted limits.
8. Take some time to learn about the area’s topography geography and cultural groups. The more you know the more you will enjoy your visit.
So, as you visit Montana’s beautiful acres, please take time to make sure that everyone’s visit is all it can be. By following these travel tips, you can do just that.
